Discover the future of urban commuting!
UCD Energy Institute in partnership with UCD Library and supported by the UCD Smarter Travel Group is delighted to announce a pilot bike loan programme for staff commencing in September 2023.
The UCD Bike Library will loan an e-bike or folding bike free of charge to a limited number of UCD staff for the first trimester of the 2023/24 academic year. Bicycle insurance and maintenance services provided by Bleeper Active will be free of charge to all participants.

Participants in the pilot programme will also receive free bicycle familiarisation to get them started. For interested participants, a free e-learning course on safer cycling is available from UCD Estate Services at this link.
Applications for the Bike Library pilot have now closed. We hope to reopen applications in 2024, so please do check back here for updates.
The pilot programme is an expansion of previous successful bike library projects conducted by Professor Francesco Pilla. Data and feedback from the pilot will be utilised by academics researching smart and sustainable cities in collaboration with the Energy Institute and NexSys.
It is hoped that the project can be scaled upwards in 2024 to include UCD students after the conclusion of the pilot programme, so please check back here for further updates!
